About Denise Johnson:
Originally from New York City, currently living in Atlanta. Georgia. I was an IT Consultant, working primarily on Wall Street for 21 years, a documentary filmmaker, entrepreneur and more recently a caregiver.
I have lived, loved, worked, prayed and played in 48 countries across 6 continents so suffice to say I've lived an extraordinary life full of adventure, fulfillment, and success, but my crowning achievement, the job I loved the most, was Caregiver.
I had the good fortune of being mom's caregiver for 11 years and experiencing my mom's death through my love-tinted glasses as natural, sacred, graceful, gentle, inevitable and her final rite of passage, my relationship with, and understanding of, death and dying were completely transformed.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I have attended dozens of Death Cafes over the past three years and I am always in awe of how a simple concept of tea, cake and convo provides so much to so many. More conversation equals less fear and suffering so I want to contribute to more death conversations by hosting such conversations under the Death Cafe banner.
What would you like your legacy to be?
In this chapter of my life I'm on a personal crusade to help families deliver their final gift of love-in-action, and to be instrumental in redefining what the end of life journey looks like in America, one beloved at a time.
Thoughts for sharing:
I am committed to amplifying constructive dialogues around death and dying because I believe the most effective way to combat the prevasive negativity and death illiteracy that is prevalent in our society is through dialogue, knowledge and our shared experiences.
