About Maggie O'Leary:

I am a retired local town museum curator, and have spent time talking to many people about their memories and thoughts - these normally always invlolve some experience of death.

I have been aware of death from an early age having experienced the death of my great-grandmother as a child, and felt that it is always present.

What brings you to Death Cafe?

In my work as a curator, some of the most poinant experiences were during exhibitions based around war and Remembrance day. In particular, my research led me to read around the prisoner of war camps, holocaust, executions (for cowardice).

During this time I was reminded that many people do not like to talk about death or dying.

When I attended my first Death Cafe, I found it such an uplifting experience, I felt it was important to bring the same opportunity into my own community.
