New Blog post: Before Jon's funeral - words from Jon's mother-in-law Carol

Posted by Jools Barsky on July 5, 2017, 4:16 p.m.

A tribute to my lovely son-in-law Jon Underwood

You were a special person but it's only now you're gone I realise how special a person you really were.

I was quite intolerant of Death Cafe because I didn't understand it. I'm afraid to say you can still learn lessons no matter how old you are, but just because I didn't understand or agree doesn't make it wrong, it was ...

New Blog post: Funeral for Death Cafe pioneer Jon Underwood breaks new ground

Jon’s family have been overwhelmed by the love and support they have received from the Death Cafe community following Jon’s sudden death this week.

As we have read in so many of the beautiful tributes that have poured in over the last few days, Jon’s work was ground-breaking and pioneering.  His funeral will be no exception.

The Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London meant a lot to Jon. He gave up a well ...

New Blog post: A message from Donna Molloy, Jon Underwood’s wife

As you all know the objective of Death Cafe is helping us all 'make the most of our finite lives'. With shocking poignancy on Sunday 25th June we experienced the finiteness of life at its most brutal. And more specifically the finiteness of the life of Jon Underwood, founder of Death Cafe, dad to two truly amazing children and my husband. He was 44.

Comfort is very hard to find right now, but there is ...

Practitioners question: Name lables

Hi

Our first death cafe is being held on 13th May and we're wondering whether we should have name labels available? Anyone else done this? Good idea or not?

We have three facilitators who we thought should wear name labels, but not sure if attendees would want to.

Costa Da Morte

So named because of the large number of shipwrecks that have occured on its rocky shores.

But despite the ominous name, it is still frequented by budding surfers looking for a thrill-ride!

New Blog post: Sky burial goes mainstream

Posted by Jools Barsky on Feb. 11, 2011, 2:22 p.m. 2 comments

After watching this weeks' episode of Human Planet on the BBC, I was intrigued to see the discussion of a practice known as "sky burial", as mentioned in our earlier post.
