About this Death Cafe

Jane first experienced death in 1954 at the age of 10 when a childhood friend died suddenly.  Her father died a year later and she had no way to precess these events because, at that time, death was a taboo subject for many people. In 1970, Jane read Elizabeth Kubler Ross' first book and this began her journey to understanding of ways to process the intricacies of losing someone you love. She spent the next decades reading everything she could about the topic but still found it difficult to get friends and family to talk about death and dying. The discovery of the Death Cafe in Tucson opened her eyes to help herself and other people have meaningful conversations in supportive surroundings and this began her journey of offering Death Cafes in Massachusetts.

About Jane Ford

Jane Ford, M.Ed, is an experienced teacher and public speaker.  She has an extensive background working with community and faith-based nonprofits. She attended her first cafe in Tucson Arizona in 2015 and loved the format of facilitated discussion that allowed everyone to speak and be listened to without criticism.  She co-facilitated a Death Cafe in Quincy, MA for a year and currently also co-facilitates a virtual one on Cape Cod.
