About Nick Wilde:
I have lived on the Isle of Wight and have fallen in love with the place. To be able to visit the sea every day if we wish, to find lots of activities, at least before all this happened and to make new friends has been a joy.
What brings you to Death Cafe?
I have been involved in dying and death since joining a Quaker group concerned with getting more open discussions of dying and death. When the Death Cafe movement started I facillitated my first in Bedford where I then lived. On moving to the Isle of Wight in 2016 I set one up in Newport at the beginning of 2017 which we ran for about two years but numbers fell off and I became despondent. However the Coronavus pandemic has focussed our minds and having attended another online Death Cafe I have had me enthusiams rekindled.
What would you like your legacy to be?
To have led a good life
Thoughts for sharing:
- Approach old age with courage and hope. As far as possible, make arrangements for your care in good time, so that an undue burden does not fall on others. Although old age may bring increasing disability and loneliness, it can also bring serenity, detachment and wisdom. Pray that in your final years you may be enabled to find new ways of receiving and reflecting God’s love.
- Are you able to contemplate your death and the death of those closest to you? Accepting the fact of death, we are freed to live more fully. In bereavement, give yourself time to grieve. When others mourn, let your love embrace them.
