I am very fortunate. My surgeon father talked openly about death when I was growing up.
As an RN, I worked on a floor at Children's Hospital where 80% of the patietns died. We talked openly about death with them.
However, during my nursing career, I witnessed many patients who were at the end of their life and no one, not even the medical professionals talked with them about it.
I later participated in many spiritual talks and workshops on death.
Talking about death shines a huge warm light on life.
I am now in my 60s and six people in my life have cancer. Some of them will die soon but are terrified of talking about death. My mother is in hospice.
It is time to bring death discussions to a safe, embracing and hopefully sometimes humorous forum that is open to the public.
It is OK to discuss death, it won't kill us!
