About this Death Cafe

Ellen and Marion feel hosting a Death Cafe is a way to make a positive contribution to life in their communities.  Both have found in their work and studies that talking about death is a deepening experience that connects people in a way that can be transcendent, comforting and life affirming all at the same time.   And, they like to talk (and listen!) a lot.  And, drink coffee.  And, eat cake.  And, kayak.  Not all at the same time.   Ellen and Marion are very grateful to a couple of death positive attendees of Death Cafe who very graciously covered the cost of renting Devereaux House for this Death Cafe. You know who you are.

About Marion Willms and Ellen Newman

Ellen Newman is a former Funeral Celebrant and former Lay Chaplain with the Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga. She is currently a student in the Funeral Service Education Program at Humber College and hopes to become a licensed Funeral Director in June of 2016. Marion Willms is a Registered Nurse working in Palliative Care and Community Nursing.  She is also a thanadoula with a budding practice.  Both Ellen and Marion are graduates of the Contemplative End of Life Care program at the Toronto Institute of Traditional Medicine.
