About this Death Cafe

As a society, we rarely discuss death, even though the inevitability of death is the only thing we can predict in life. A Death Cafe is a useful forum for people coming to terms with a terminal illness and people caring for the dying. For any human being, no matter what their stage in life, an awareness of the presence of death can help us live our lives more fully.

About Padmalila and Lesley

Lesley Murphy

I am a funeral celebrant with Humanists UK. I work with bereaved families to help them create a beautiful ceremony in which they can say goodbye to their loved one. A lot of people regard this as the last important gift they can give the person who has died. The process of creating the ceremony can be cathartic in terms of starting to process the grief and shock caused by the death.

I am an end of life doula and am completing my training with Living Well Dying Well. I long for more awareness and concious choice around the end of lfe to be the norm in our crazy, complex lives. One way I believe to move towards this is to have conversations about dying and death with as many people as possible so that we can choose how we want to live in the last phase of our lives. Death Cafes offer this opportunity.
